Times have moved on so far that, except to those personally involved at the time, the Special Investigations Branch (SIB) interrogation of suspected gays prior to the ban being lifted on 12 Jan 00 seems surreal and crude. An excerpt from such an interview is below:

Q: What happened when you went back to the hotel?
A: Went to bed.

Q: You went to bed with B?
A: Yes.

Q: What happened in bed? Did a sexual act take place?
A: A certain type.

Q: OK, Mac. You say a certain type. Can you just briefly - you don't have to be explicit - explain what you mean.
A: Oral.

Q: Oral sex. Can you explain who was doing what?
A: Both. Vice versa.

Q: What? You had B's penis in your mouth?
A: Yes.

Q: Did B have his penis in your mouth?
A: Yes.

Q: Did B ejaculate into your mouth?
A: No.

Q: Did you ejaculate into B's mouth?
A: No.

Q: Did you ejaculate in front of each other?
A: Yes.

Q: OK And how did that happen then?
A: He did it and I did mine.

Q: What? He was masturbating himself and you were masturbating yourself. And whereabouts did you ejaculate? Over each other?
A: More or less.

Q: Well, I know it's probably hard for you but could you be more specific than 'more or less'?
A: Well, I don't see what it's got to with it, but yeah him over me. I just did it myself.

Q: Whereabouts did he come over you?
A: There.
