The Independent on Sunday (IoS) Pink List 2011

On Sun 23 Oct, The Independent on Sunday (IoS) newspaper published its annual Pink List 2011 which lists the most influential gay and lesbian people in the UK.

This time they asked readers to nominate the unsung heroes and heroines who make life for lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people better. They received over 1,500 nominations, which boiled down to about 300 separate names. These were reviewed by their panel of expert judges who included two who have represented their parties in parliament, two who have represented their countries at sports, a magazine editor, four tireless campaigners and a HM Procurator-General.


The Royal Navy, the Army and the RAF all had members of their respective services listed in the top 101. Lieutenant Commander Mandy McBain, the Chair of the Naval Service LGBT Forum and a NATO LGBT Working Group member; Lance Corporal James Wharton who has been working closely with Stonewall and talking in schools as part of the Education for All Campaign and Wing Commander Mark Abrahams Chair of the RAF LGBT Forum.
