This section is intended to offer some informal advice about gender orientation, sexuality, coming out and lifestyle choices.

Equal rights, not gay rights.

In BBC readers' comments on the "Royal Navy to promote gay rights" [more ...] article one person wrote:

"I would like to point out that the Navy is not exercising gay rights - but is exercising equal rights. And who can argue with that?"

This also sums up the approach that proud2serve.net is following, and we are seeking to inform, support and sustain part of the military community rather than be campaigners.

Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations

Read a summary of the Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003.

The Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations came into force in December 2003. The regulations aim to protect employees across the British economy against direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of sexual orientation, religion or belief. More details of how this is working in practice in the economy at large are available on the Personnel Today website.

The Ministry of Defence came 59th in Stonewall's annual Corporate Equality Index for 2005 with 62.00%. Organisations participating in Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme scored an average of 74.1% compared with the 58.3% average for non-members. Visit Stonewall's website for further details
