Mandy Mc BainIn 2000, the ban on lesbian, gay and bisexual people serving in the Armed Forces was lifted. Lieutenant Commander Mandy McBain of the Royal Navy looks at the progress that has been made since then.
Things have moved on a lot, not just in the Naval Service but in the UK generally. It is therefore correct that the rules, regulations, policies and practices that the Naval Service adheres to mirror, as much as they can, those in the wider society. After all, it’s from this wider society that the Navy recruits.
