The Guardian has published an article about Gay rights laws in the US. 

Gay rights laws in America have evolved to allow — but in some cases ban — rights for gay, lesbian and transgender people on a range of issues, including marriage, hospital visitation, adoption, housing, employment and school bullying. The handling of gay rights issues vary by state and follow trends by region.

Dec 10: US Senate lifts 'don't ask, don't tell' gay soldier ban

Don't Ask Don't Tell repeal passed by the US SenateOn 18 Dec 10 US Senators voted decisively 65-31, largely along party lines, for a bill which sets out to overturn the 1993 Don't Ask Don't Tell law, which bars gay people in the military from revealing that they are gay or face administrative discharge. In total over 13,000 service personnel were discharged under DADT purely for having been outed to their employer.
