FAQs about Proud2Serve

About Us - Proud2ServeAdmin

Is this an official website?

No. Proud2Serve.net is an independently owned and run website which receives funding support from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force. We work closely with the Equality and Diversity teams from all three services and their LGBT Forums to deliver timely support to LGBT serving, ex-serving and their families.

Why do we need Proud2Serve.net?

The aim of Proud2Serve.net is to build an online community of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender servicemen and women in Britain's Armed Forces. We aim to to inform, support and sustain the entire military community rather than be campaigners for any particular group.

A brief visit to P2SForum to read the topics where service personnel are looking for advice, together with 'the road to equality' should dispell any doubts as to whether there is an enduring need for an information and support resource such as this website.

Why should I register on Proud2Serve.net?

We care about your privacy and the privacy of the online community built around Proud2Serve.net. The vast majorty of the website and P2SForum are publicly accessible to everyone on the internet. However the advantage of the password-protected areas that are only available to logged-in, authenticated users, is that we have developed a community of mutual trust where you can share personal impressions, problems, successes and advice.

Why do you insist on authenticating each member that registers?

There are many service personnel who may think about joining this kind of site but are worried and concerned about who else will have access to the details, for general personal security or due to concerns about not being outed. This is why we insist on confirming your credentials before allowing entry.

What can I include on my profile?

Personal details. You have, or will supply personal details for your profile. We'd like to encourage you to use your real name but will not force you to to do so. However this is not gaydar or gay.com and we will ask you to choose a different name if its content is sexual. Use your real name if you are confident enough to. Tell us who you are and what you do. Rank has no meaning on here but if you choose to display it, remember that this is a public forum. Tell us about your leisure interests, maybe your secondary and additional duties that other people share an interest in. Tell us about your life journey and how your colleagues accept you. We don't want to know your vital stats - but you can put a link to profiles on other sites with that kind of info if you want.

Photographs. What helps a lot is if you include a photograph on your profile. It's a great show of support for the nature of proud2serve.net and our stance if you include a photo. Be in no doubt - we will not display it publicly or pass it to any third party without your explicit written consent, unless you have added it yourself directly to the site.

Links to other profiles. This isn't a dating website, it's a professional networking area. However we acknowledge that this may be the only way you can get in contact with guys and girls local to your station or base. So to that end you will be able to add links to your profiles on other general interest and LGBT social networks.

I am in the Police / Ambulance Service / Coastguard / RAC. Why can't I join?

Proud2Serve.net values the contribution of the other uniformed services beyond HM Armed Forces.  Our members maintain regular links, social and professional with other networks for the emergency services. However, it was developed to be the only online community of its type reserved to the RN, Army, RAF and MOD colleagues, serving and ex-serving regulars and reservists and their families, in light of the unique circumstances that accompany their service. There are other sites for the uniformed and emergency services' members - amongst these you might try uniformdating.com or MilitaryFriends.com.

Proud2serve is not exercising gay rights - but is exercising equal rights.

proud2serve.net is a non-sexually orientated website. Soliciting for sex through this site is not be permitted. Any user found doing so will have their account suspended immediately. To this end proud2serve.net reserves the right to monitor and read any messages sent, but will not disclose their contents to any third party.
